Introduction to Digital Media

Introduction to Digital Media - Project #1

Confronted with "What to do?" in his studio soon after
graduating, Bruce Nauman had the simple but profound
realization that “If I was an artist and I was in the studio,
then whatever I was doing in the studio must be art.”
For the first project each student should consider this idea
in reference to their own studio practice. Using the digital
tools discussed in class students will create a print or series
of prints with work focused in photoshop that investigates
your actions taken in the studio. This will be a slight
removal from your normal working process. You are not
documenting work made but instead considering your
working process and how this reframed may be considered
as a work itself. Take this chance to observe actions taken
as you work, consider your process and movement through the studio space, while you still engage and explore with your practice. Consider that a studio space may expand beyond the space held in the Moore building and move into the world outside.
Examples: Students could set up a time lapse photo and record themselves working, they might map their movements in the studio and create a loose map of their movements through the space, students could create a series of texts or drawings in response to a failed piece
